We did some bowling this weekend. Saturday was clearly uneventful as I don't remember anything of note other than taking Sawyer to the library after her nap, and so Sunday I knew that our girls needed to get out of the house. While we're about to experience a bit of a warm wave, this weekend was still cold and windy so we opted for a quick trip to the mall. Sawyer got to ride the train, and while I thought we'd go and just let them walk and people watch a bit, I remembered that there's also a bowling alley. Mark and Sawyer both were game and so off we went. We ended up playing just one game, but I foresee a time in the not too distant future when we could go for a good two hours and do lunch and bowling and make an afternoon of it.
Isla is still too little, but she enjoyed sitting at the end of our alley just watching. On occasion she'd hop down and walk around a bit but she really was content here for the full time. I'm super impressed because when Sawyer was this age we took her bowling with us and she cried everytime one of us tried to bowl, which was comical, and annoying.
Sawyer on the other hand was totally digging bowling. They had shoes in her size, a 5 lb ball she could lift, and bumpers that came up every time it was her turn to bowl. And Mark only had to bowl his ball into hers about three times to get it all the way down the lane. This girl had the most animated expressions - 1 pin down gave her the biggest smile and we got high fives on nearly every roll!
All in all, a really nice way to spend the morning and it sufficiently tired both girls out that we got great naps out of them when we got home. It had been a really busy week work-wise for Mark and I. Mark worked late every night which meant I was balancing a busy schedule myself and watching the girls all week. To say that we needed to just chill Friday and Saturday was an understatement. Not a lot to show for this time, as I mentioned before, but there was some good playtime to be had.
Isla and Sawyer, not unlike most sisters I know, oscillate between having a love/hate relationship. At times, Sawyer is very loving to her sister and asking her what's wrong, and trying to get her toys, or make her giggle. We happened to catch them playing together on the couch like that this weekend. Sawyer wanted Isla to hang out on her lap, and surprisingly Isla obliged and they were having a good old time together.
Back at it today...already counting down till our February mini-vacation - less than three weeks away!
