So far, it feels like the move was the absolute right decision for us. Our first night in our house, Mark and I both said it already feels like home...albeit a relatively empty home right now - we have a lot of rooms to fill! We had a pretty good move overall - very thankful that my parents decided to make the trip to help because it helped having more than one person to distract Sawyer, and I learned that unpacking at 7 months pregnant does in fact tire you out a whole hell of a lot. It was a long day because we were the "afternoon" move as well, so the movers didn't leave till about 7pm, but all in all nothing got broken or lost as far as we can tell.
As many of you know, we moved on Sawyer's 2nd birthday. While we had a party for her in Buffalo, it just didn't feel right to do nothing, so I ended up ordering a cake from our town bakery and we had a little pizza/cake party mid and post move. As you can see, she was glad we didn't let the birthday just pass by, and even enjoyed having us sing Happy Birthday to her this time.
And her second cake...
Our girl has definitely been enjoying her birthday present - her new house. We go outside more frequently, either to the playground, on walks, or just the backyard because it seems a whole lot easier here. It's so nice having our stroller just steps away and always set up. The biggest problem we've encountered is that Sawyer can open each and every door we have and so she can escape outside as desired...which is what she did in the picture below. Luckily she didn't go far - choosing to just play with us from the window.
Other than that, life is starting to get back to normal. Sawyer doesn't seem to miss our condo, is up and down our stairs constantly exploring the space, and loves her new play room. Our hardest adjustment has been daycare. We were so lucky with her first daycare, and while she seems to be fine 2 minutes after we leave her, gets great reports for being talkative and happy all day, and is happy when we pick her up she is utterly miserable when we drop her off. I think it's that fear of something new, but she cries and clutches Mark or I, and it's the saddest thing ever. I swear the one day I could have quit my job it made me so sad. We're only five days in, and she did get better throughout the week, so fingers crossed we eventually adjust. Thankfully she does talk about both her teachers positively and tells us she has fun with them.
At any rate, Mark is in East Lansing tonight having gone to the MSU v. Wisconsin game, so Sawyer and I were on our own today/tomorrow. We spent a lot of time playing in her playroom and while she's been in a great mood she also hasn't stopped talking for most of the day. Meant that not a whole lot of organizing got done as planned, but how can you argue with a big smile like this.
We haven't bought the bookshelves or table for Sawyer's playroom yet, so we haven't made her get rid of the giant box her toys were packed in...but also because she LOVES it. She puts all her animals in it, sits in it, and often makes us hang up a blanket as a door for her to hide. Not sure we're ever going to be able to get rid of this box actually...
