...to Grandma and Grandpa Harris's house we go. This past weekend we loaded up again and made the drive over to Manchester. We had a wedding in Ann Arbor and Sawyer and Isla were perfectly happy to spend the day with their Grandparents while Mark and I went out and had some fun. We didn't get on the road until about 6pm Friday night so it was a slow start to the weekend - upon our arrival I carried each kid in and put them right into bed to continue sleeping, so other than a quick pat on the back G&G didn't really get to see them till the following morning.
They were ready to go the following morning. Sawyer even woke up and said she wanted to go see Alex (the dog), which is light years ahead of where she was last trip. Not that she ran up to pet him, but I was happy she didn't scream and cry and jump in my arms because she was afraid. In fact, Sawyer remembered where everything was and immediately wanted to go get some of Grandma's books and have her read them to her, and get into Daddy's old toys. Isla also got into the action - she loves to empty boxes so she thoroughly enjoyed being sat in front of the boxes of toys and exploring what was in them.
She especially liked playing the piano. All kids like the noise I think but Isla didn't just bang away at the keys - she kind of looked like she was playing. Smile says it all. After playing with the kids in the morning, Mark and I both got dressed and headed off for the wedding. Sawyer and Isla spent the day with G&G and even treated them by taking 4 hour naps.
The wedding was so much fun. It started at 11am, followed by the reception, and then an after-party at the bride and groom's house, complete with bonfire and fireworks! So many of the Manchester friends were there - new and old for me - and they never disappoint on a good time. Mark did not show off any of his dance moves so perhaps he'll be feeling the groove at the wedding we're going to next month. That's right - we're headed back to Michigan in a few short weeks for a wedding in Lansing this time.
The next day we went out for breakfast in town, checked out the waterfall one last time, and packed up to drive home. Girls were pretty good for us in the car, but it's safe to say that Mark and I are also ready to call a long hiatus on all the long drives out of town. Weather is just too perfect in Chicago right now to leave...
